Published in Bamberg in 1491, this book is one of the strongest sources for the Dracula story. It is the history of Wladislaus Drgwyla, also known as Vlad III, a 15th-century Prince of Wallachia, now part of Romania. He was known after his death as ‘Vlad the Impaler’ due to the inhuman cruelties practised by his armies during wars with the Ottoman empire.
